Dear Mr. Leeland,
Your crew has just finished the roof on our house, and I am writing on behalf of my wife and myself to commend the crew.
- Nobody could work harder. They have worked from daylight to dark seven days a week. There are no slackers.
- They are fast and efficient. Nobody stands around waiting for somebody else to finish. They always have something to work on.
- They know what they are doing. They have invariably given us good advice, and we trust their judgement completely.
- Here's the most important thing: They are excellent craftsmen. Their hard work is flawless and beautiful. They never cut corners. They have the highest standards, and they produce the same quality whether anybody's watching them or not. They are attentive to detail, and anybody with an eye for good work can look at this roof and tell it was hand-crafted by experts.
My wife and I have been restoring this house for 22 years, and we have hired the best craftsmen we could find. Nobody has been any better than this crew. Robert Grubb, who is charge of this job, is the best restoration man in the state, and has won many awards. He has worked with far more craftsmen than I have, and he shares my opinion of your crew. He told me he has no doubt that this will be the best roof in Austin. We told Bob at the outset that we wanted a roof that would last a hundred years, and Robert and I are both satisfied that if this one won't do it, none will.
Please accept our thanks to your employees. We know they were far away from their families for a long stretch, and we offer our thanks to their families for their sacrifice.
The roof is striking, both from the ground and from the top of the house. We could not be more pleased with the job.
Sincerely,
Hugh Lowe, Attorney at Law

Dear Mr. Leeland,
I would like to compliment you and all of your associates for a job well done. The quality of your work and your crew's pride of craftsmanships is clearly evident. We are very pleased with the result, and feel fortunate to have found a quality-minded company like Leeland's to work with. Please pass along our thanks to everyone involved.
Thanks again for helping us to upgrade and maintain our property.
Warmest Regards,
Steve Belke
Dear Mr. Leeland,
When I bought my house in 1998, I found that houses built decades ago have their own character. For instance, although my house was built in 1949, it has many traits of a house built in the 1920's or 1930's. The history was also evident with the slate roof and steam heat!
I contracted Leeland's Slate Roof Repair after an extensive search for a qualified contractor. Luckily, I was warned early by my chimney-sweeper that slate roof repairs were not easy. One even had to know "how to walk" on a slate roof to avoid damage. I was initially depressed with the thought that my roof needed special care. I later thought about having the slate replaced with a more modern material (including slate "look-a-like" materials) with the hope that it would make repairs less costly and specialized.
Following my research, I knew Leeland's had the expertise to help me make my roof decision. I happened to find Leeland's on the Internet and I reviewed your impressive web site. The information on the web site confirmed for me that slate repairs should only be done by those who understand slate! The repair estimate was thorough, yet manageable. I received descriptive pictures with the quote that pinpointed exact problems for the entire roof. More importantly, the quote was broken into several parts, ordered by severity, and had separate costs. By doing this, it allowed me to budget repairs in phases rather than a disappointment of a high overall cost - that couldn't be met all at once anyway. The fact that Leeland's doesn't use subcontracted labor also confirmed for me you are serious about your quality.
I was assured by Leeland's that by investing in the maintenance of the roof now, I could preserve the character of the house and still spend less than a complete roof replacement. I'm glad I chose to keep the slate. Many houses in the neighborhood used to have slate. It's nice to know that my house remains "authentic" to its original design.
Sincerely,
G. B. Hendrickson
Dear Mr. Chris Leeland,
In the cheap plastic throwaway society in which we live, it is refreshing to encounter good solid workmanship.
Our new slate roof on Saint Rose of Lima Church in Newfield has been the object of many compliments. It is a tribute to your men who were able to accomplish this with a minimum of disruption. They acted in a professional manner as well as left a clean job site each day. Your foreman Bob impressed our parish staff by his astute management.
A slate and copper roof is not cheap, but you were reasonable and gave value and quality.
Your workmanship is oldworld in a computer age.
I wish you well in the future.
Sincerely yours,
Reverend John J. Tumosa
Dear Sirs,
We had not planned for roof repairs when we budgeted our expenses this year, so we were very sensitive to price. We got recommendations from neighbors and from a well-known builder in the area.
One of your estimators prepared for us a detailed proposal that addressed our immediate needs, and gave us a number of options. It was much more detailed than any of the others we received.
As it turned out, Leelands was competitive with the other bids, and offered expertise in slate that the other companies could not match. Plus, a check with the township showed all the companies, except Leelands, had complaints on file from unhappy customers!
Your crew (Ike Phinesse and Rob Snyder) were very pleasant to have working on the house, they did an excellent job on the repair and cleanup.
We're planning on repairing the garage roof next year, and will contact you.
Please send me the same people again!
Sincerely,
Kim Standish

Thanks very much for your good work in repairing and restoring our slate roof and installing new copper gutters and downspouts. Our home is known as "The Caves," an historic house which is approaching its 200th anniversary; and in our time as its stewards, we have found that the biggest challenge is finding craftsmen with the talent and determination to do the job right. The roof has been a special challenge; so we are especially pleased to have had Leelands working on this project. From the freezing winds of February through the sweltering humidity of June, Ike and Rob and the others kept at it, took no shortcuts and produced very fine work, structurally and aesthetically. It took time and cost money, but we feel that we got what we paid for. As with some of the other costly projects which we have undertaken during our time here (repainting the two-story back porch comes to mind), the more you look at the job, the more you appreciate the results. Thanks again.

This steeple restoration project was performed under the name Behm Roofing which was a subsidiary of our corporation. Work performed involved removing the slate from the steeple and all the deteriorated tin from the dormer roofs, installing 20 ounce copper to the spire and dormer roofs, gold leafing the ball and arrow, and replacing the entire bell tower wood facing due to rot.
- Bethel AME Church - Reading, PA
This was a full tower and front facade of church restoration. We installed a new slate roof up to the tower, painted the tower, and installed new cornice to the front of the church.
- The First Presbyterian Church of Ewing, Ewing, NJ
This project involved the total restoration of the spire. We installed a new shingle roof on the spire, replaced all the dormer roofs and ledges with 20 ounce copper, spot pointed the decorative stone pillars on the steeple, and repaired the spire ornament.
- First United Church of Christ - Reading, PA
This project was completed in two phases. The first phase involved a total steeple restoration. The entire steeple from the roof line up was re-clad with 16 ounce lead coated copper to match the existing. We also replaced much slate on the spire and gold leafed the cross and ball. Massive amounts of woodwork was performed due to water damage. The entire tower was pointed and the bricks waterproofed.
The second phase still in progress involves restoring the entire outside of the church building. All exterior doors and windows were painted. We installed new 16 ounce lead coated copper cornice to the entire church building. The 300 foot of box gutter had deteriorated and needed to be rebuilt and new rubber roofs installed in the box gutters. The entire building was then spot painted.
- Palmyra Church of the Brethren - Palmyra, PA
This project involved the total cleaning of the porcelain steeple by hand.

We restored the entire slate roof, replaced the valleys with 20 ounce copper, and rebuilt the box gutters. We are going to be performing a steeple restoration. (see upcoming project section)
